the concept
Foga boxes propose a method for reusing furniture-production offcuts and upcycling wood-based sheet materials. Designed with compact living spaces in mind, they are available in three stackable sizes that address a variety of storage needs.
Used individually, the boxes function as independent storage solutions; when combined, they form a multifunctional cabinet system.
material
The boxes are made entirely from reclaimed wood-based sheet materials, demonstrating the potential of utilising production offcuts. Through a simple construction process and the use of reused materials, the design remains affordable and easily adaptable to different contexts.
Reused and found materials often carry variations in finish, traces of old paint, and signs of wear such as dents. While preserving these qualities can sometimes be appropriate, some need to be covered up completely. Foga proposes different approaches by combining painted elements with raw materials in visually engaging ways.
stacking and storing
Boxes come in sizes SMALL, MEDIUM and LARGE, catering to a range of storage needs and can be stacked on top of each other in various combinations.
The foot of the box allows for stacking and easy grip.
Shelving can be added inside the LARGE box by creating recesses for other off-cut materials to act as shelves.
The dimensions of each box are designed to align with standard storage formats.
The square proportions of the box allow for both vertical and horizontal storage configurations.
construction
Foga is intentionally designed with a direct and uncomplicated construction, minimising the number of tools required for production and making the design as accessible as possible for non-professional makers.
In a DIY context, the box can be constructed using basic tools, along with glue and nails. In a production setting, it can be prefabricated and assembled using cam lock screws, allowing the design to be flat-packed for efficient transport and storage.
